Attaya Typography

Cultural Design
This typographic project is a celebration of culture and tradition, communicated through the attaya West-African tea ceremony. An ode to my upbringing in Senegal, this project showcases three unique type-pieces designed to communicate the three stages of the attaya in traditional Gambian brewing culture, from the sweet beginings of childhood, to the struggles of mid-life and the bitter end. The result is a collaborative effort with family; type pieces achieved through the same community spirit that drives attaya, with unique designs the feature elements of the Bambara and Garay alphabets of West Africa.
